CaddyDaddy First Class Review: Is This The Best Travel Bag?

If you’re serious enough about golf you’ll eventually reach a point where you want to hit the road and check out some new tracks. If you’re traveling (especially by plane) you need to get yourself a protective travel bag.

There are numerous options to pick from at different price points. I’m usually someone who likes higher quality over something budget. That said, I don’t like to pay top dollar either. The First Class bag from CaddyDaddy could be the perfect fit.

This was the first product from CaddyDaddy that I’ve looked at but I have experience with their RevCore bags and Claw gloves. Both have been solid so I expected the same here. I’ll continue to use the bag and will report back anything I find.

Best Golf Travel Bag For The Money? // CaddyDaddy First Class Unboxing & Review

The First Impressions

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been looking at several different travel bags. You have a range of different options so the choice can be tough.

Some bags are essentially big duffle bags that don’t have much padding. Others have hard walls but also come with a pretty big price tag. The First Class bag is somewhere in the middle.

Taking it out of the box, I noticed right away that it was similar to their other products, good quality. The material is a thick nylon that should withstand wear and tear. The zippers are solid and aren’t made from plastic.

I also liked the fact that everything is riveted to the bag rather than stitched. Again, this should improve the ability to withstand airline abuse.

As for the overall construction of the bag, the bottom 2/3 is soft-sided and doesn’t have much padding. The top 1/3 is hard to protect your clubs.

The Key Features

Large Bag Pocket: The main compartment where you put your bag is snug at the base and has a bit more room at the top. I put a full-size cart bag in and had about 5 inches of room at the top.

Internal Strap: There’s a strap inside that makes sure your bag is secure and isn’t going to move around during travel.

2x Side Pockets: Each side of the bag has a decent-sized pocket. You can easily fit a pair of shoes in each one or whatever else you’d want to bring on your trip.

External Straps: There are 3 straps on the outside of the bag for additional support. Again, it makes sure your bag doesn’t move around and is also a backup in case the zipper breaks.

3x Carry Handles: There’s a rubber handle on both the top and bottom of the bag as well as a nylon one in the middle.

Lockable Zippers: Each of the 3 pockets can be locked which is a big plus.

Standing Base: This is something that might not seem like a big deal but is actually very useful. Sometimes you aren’t going to have room to lay the bag flat, so you’ll have the option to stand it vertically.

Curb Guards: It’s bound to happen that you’ll have to take your bag up/down stairs or over a curb. Without any support, you could damage something so these guards will protect everything inside (and the travel bag itself).

Wheels: Kind of a no-brainer and something you need to have.

The Downsides

Whenever I review a product I always try to find something that could be a negative for some people. It doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with the bag, it’s just something that you might want to consider.

The first thing is that it takes up a decent amount of room when not in use. Pretty much all travel bags that have a hard structure will be this way.

The second is that it’s not the most protective option. If you’re extremely worried about something in your bag getting damaged then you might want to consider a 100% hard-shelled bag. That said, it’s good enough for me.

The Bottom Line

After taking everything into account, am I happy with the First Class bag? I am. Would I prefer to spend more (or less) money on something else? I don’t think I would.

If you’re going to be traveling more than a couple of times, you won’t want to get a cheap bag. It’s just not worth the risk in my opinion.

As for the more expensive options, most of them won’t give you that much more protection. The only benefit might be more storage room.

I think the value you get from the First Class bag makes it one of the best options out there. It’s $100 cheaper than some of the others and I’m always one to get the best value for my money.

One thing I would say is that getting the North Pole is probably a good idea. It’s a long pole that goes in your bag to stop any vertical force. You could make one yourself if you wanted to save some money but it’s something I’d recommend either way.
